Reblog Modern Dating

In the real world, love can be hard to find, so daters are increasingly turning to the digital world instead.  Part of the process for signing up on dating sites and apps is writing a profile designed to catch the interest of potential partners.  You can connect with potential partners via chat rooms, private messages, video chatting, and more.  Look for people who have qualities you find attractive, such as a good sense of humor, an established career, or similar life goals.  An online profile creates a quick and easy place to highlight splices of someone’s life and personality.  You can display your hobbies, interests, pastimes, friends, or family if you want to.  The way daters represent themselves online makes a big difference in who responds and how. One third of U.S. adults age 55-plus have used an online dating site or app, and two-thirds of them had a relationship with someone they met through the platform.

In theory, online dating should be great.  Many of the new dating apps are hookup sites, where people are seeking instant physical gratification and have no desire for a long-term serious committed relationship.  Hookup platforms offer a variety of communication features to facilitate casual connections allowing members to search for potential matches without worrying about meeting someone face-to-face.  Cuffing season (a period of time where single people begin looking for short term partnerships) usually begins in October and lasts until just after Valentines Day.  Cuffing season and casual dating are both possibilities today, making hookup culture more openly accepted and even somewhat expected for young people.  However, it can be difficult to find people who are interested in the same type of relationship that you are looking for if everyone is swiping right for casual sex, a one-night stand or friends-with-benefits.  The casual sex culture dictates that emotions cannot come in way of sexual attachment and because of this many people are missing out on romance, intimacy, and satisfying sex that they deserve, which only happens after a special bond is formed when two people actually care about each other.

  1. I’ve never heard of cuffing season! I will admit to being on an online dating site which also has a separate community/blog site. There was a time when I was on the dating site more than the blog site….but now it’s the other way around.

  2. I would be willing to try the app if I couldn’t meet someone in real life. I’m just so happy I don’t have to go through this stuff no matter the way you do it…and I hope it stays that way.

  3. People say that it’s dangerous going on a date with someone you’ve never met. We had “blind dates” back when I was dating; while it’s true we didn’t know the other person, the date was always set up by a friend of both parties or a family member. Still, anything could go wrong …. but not always. I met my husband on a blind date in 1968 and we’ve been together ever since that first date.
