Shockingly Vile

Grendel was a dreaded demon and he was feared by all in Heorot except for Beowulf.  Grendel was a mix of man and beast and he was so ugly that only a mother could love him.  Grendel lived in a cave, or a lair that he shared with his mother beneath a pool of water in a dark swamp.  Daryl Hall & John Oates referred to Grendel’s mother as a Maneater.  Her mind was not Tiffany-Twisted and she never got that Mercedes Bens, but she was said to be a descendent of Cain, so that made her evil.  Beowulf dives into Grendel’s dark mere and begins his descent into the watery depths swimming until “the ninth hour of the day”, which is the same hour that Luke said Christ died on the cross.  It is interesting that the Anglo-Saxons counted the hours of the day beginning from 6 o’clock in the morning, so the ninth hour is 3 o’clock in the afternoon.

Last week we had Prepositions of Place and that was used so I could talk about the prompt words Above/Below/Between.  This week we have some the more deviant, sinister, sordid, terrible, vicious words  Cruel/Evil/Horrible/Monster/Wicked, and hopefully everyone will be able to find a song that utilizes one of these prompt words in the title or in the lyrics.  Take some time to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this music challenge, as you will probably find many enjoyable songs and it is quite possibly that you will learn a thing or two.  Share your music with others and post a video, try do some research and let everyone know something about the song that you post.  Show the lyrics, let’s all listen to our favorite songs and explore some new music.  Try to find a song that fits the prompt, then write your post and create a pingback, or you can just place your link in the comments section.

I am doing something a bit different today as I will be writing about two different songs today in two different posts.  I will write about ‘The Wicked Messenger’ by Bob Dylan and ‘Strange World’ by Mickey Hart this week.  Next week I will be writing about the song ‘Hair’ from the musical Hair, that was composed by Galt MacDermot with lyrics written by James Rado and Gerome Ragni which became a major hit for the Cowsills.  The upcoming prompts will be:
