What Goes Around Comes Around

You should not mistreat others and this proverb is used to say that if someone treats other people badly he or she will eventually be treated badly by someone else.  What goes around comes around is simular to saying ‘you sow, what you reap’ and it is the basic understanding of how karma, the law of cause and effect, works.  The word karma literally means activity.  Karma can be good or bad, and it can involve an individual or a collective.  Things have a way of eventually returning to their original state after completing some sort of cycle.  A person’s actions, whether good or bad, will often have consequences for that person.

John Lennon once said about the Beatles, “We’re more popular than Jesus.”  The concept of Karma is popular in the Hindu and Buddhist religions, but I had never heard of karma until this song came out in February of 1970, which I think is one of the finest recordings from Lennon’s solo career.  The Plastic Ono Band on ‘Instant Karma! (We All Shine On)’ was comprised of John Lennon on vocals and upright piano, Klaus Voormann on bass guitar, Mal Evans on tambourine, Alan White on drums, and BP Fallon on bass guitar and tambourine.  Lennon and Ono both wore black turtlenecks, but I found this video very disturbing having to watch Yoko Ono crocheting while blindfolded by a sanitary pad and she said that she did this to let people know the position of women in the world.

    1. Good point, I wish I would have thought of that. As you would have them do unto based on words of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. Sometimes stated, “All things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them.” And then there is The Mosaic law which states, “Whatever is hurtful to you, do not do to any other person.”

  1. Yoko was kind of a disturbing character, period. But, John loved her and as far as I can tell she was a good mother to Sean, and she did give the other three the master tape with “Free As A Bird” and “True Love” on it, so she can’t be that ad.

    1. I never liked her singing, because it just sounded like screeching to me, but as you pointed out she did love John and on the whole she was a good person. I guess she was kind of a muse for John.
