Dead Men Tell No Tales

Dead men tell no tales was a common pirate phrase, meaning once someone is dead, they can no longer communicate, hence killing someone is the best way to keep him/her quiet.  This became a standard pirate excuse for leaving no survivors because permanently silencing any witnesses prevents them for sharing what they know with the authorities.  Forensic experts would argue that they can get a lot of information from a corpse.  An anthropologist might say that a well preserved mummy can reveal many secrets.  Also ironically the Grateful Dead wrote a song titled ‘The Greatest Story Ever Told’.  The lyrics are by Robert Hunter and the music is by Bob Weir and Mickey Hart.

Written for Linda G. Hill Life in progress One-Liner Wednesday – January 17 prompt.
