X is for Xenial

Xenial is a synonym for warm, welcoming, and hospitable, but this word can also be used to describe a friendly relationship that exists between two parties, like that which exists between a blogger and a reader.  Creating a welcoming, memorable and friendly experience for everyone that reads your posts can’t be all that easy, but some bloggers are so good at this, and they do it naturally, because they know how to be good with people.  There are many badly written posts that get a lot of engagement here on WordPress and people will give these posts likes and make comments on them, because these people are just plain nice.  If you make comments on their posts, they will reply to your messages, as that is tied into their personality.  I found this web page that printed out over 7,300 words that rhyme with Xenial, but besides the word’s menial, venial and congenial, I didn’t think that any of those words were good rhymes.  The word congenial is close to being a synonym for xenial, because this type of person would be easy to get along with, because of their pleasant personality, or they would have qualities, or interests that are similar to your own.

Relationships work when people are compatible and being xenial with people is a positive way to treat others, as being pleasant and kind always works and that will make your readers come back and you have a good chance of becoming friends with them.  If you can focus on positive things, that will always make your readers feel good.  Being amicable, gracious, cordial, neighborly and exhibiting goodwill with an absence of antagonism is a quality that people will always desire.  Having a welcoming attitude always makes a difference and it makes others feel good about themselves.  If you can treat others with kindness, there is a good chance that they will return the favor, so what goes around, is very likely to come back around to you.  Put out your doormat and welcome people to read your blog.  Your blog is your virtual home so start smiling at people and saying hello to the bloggers that stop by to read your posts.  Accept the people that become your readers and try to embrace them with conversations.  Sometimes a smile makes all the difference, so try to be hospitable with all the guests that stop by to read your posts.

  1. I have honestly never hear of the word “xenial” and would likely use the word “genial” or “congenial” in its place, although when I typed “congenial,” my autocorrect changed it to “congenital,” but that’s a tale for another time. However, since “xenial” is in the dictionary, I guess it’s legit!

  2. I used this word last year in my A to Z challenge. It’s a great personality trait and well worth acquiring. You’re right that a pleasant person gets more interaction because of their personality type.

  3. For the most part…most of mine are like that. I don’t mind disagreements also…if I have something wrong I want someone to say something…very few have been jerks.
