Genes are the functional regions of the genome, the useful bits and pieces in our cells. The human genome contains a massive amount of DNA. The human genome consists of about 3 billion bases grouped in a precise order, each of which can be represented by a letter (G, A, T or C). A genome’s sequence cannot be read out end-to-end. On average, there are around 20 million differences between two individual genomes and without these differences, we would all be genetically identical clones. Messenger RNA, or mRNA, was discovered in the early 1960s and this has led to the development of safe and effective mRNA vaccines. including those now being deployed in the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
It’s a valiant effort in the development of vaccines.
