Hot Potato

Hot potato is a children’s game where an object (potato, bean bag, or tennis ball) is tossed from one player to another.  This is done while music is playing and the idea is to get rid of the object as fast as you can, so that your hands don’t get burnt and you don’t want to be stuck holding the potato when the music stops or you will be out.  This game is similar to musical chairs in that way.  It may help children to develop hand/eye coordination, improve their agility and response times, hone their fine motor coordination, get better with their audio and prediction skills as they’re listening for the music to stop, while they learn to take turns playing with others.  It can be played while listening to this song.

It does not take much for peas to grow and once planted, peas need little attention other than watering and harvesting.  I know this to be a fact as one summer all the kids on my block had pea shooters and after a couple of weeks of shooting them at everyone, they were growing all over my neighborhood.  They were even growing out of the sewers till the parents got together and put an end to all our fun.  Beans have been known to grow out of certain people’s ears and if a bean germinates and starts sprouting inside of a person’s ear a doctor will need to remove it in surgery.

When we are young, our mothers are always telling us what to do, sharing their wisdom and common sense, and my Mom always told me to make sure that I washed my ears out good, otherwise potatoes would start growing out of them.  I always made sure that I cleaned my ears regularly, because I was told that the waxy build up could be prone to rooting vegetables because warm and humid conditions in the ear canal would likely encourage growth if enough dirt was left inside my ears to fester.  I think that sometimes mothers tell us things that are not true.
