JFK Shooting

I was ten years old and in Fifth grade when Kennedy was shot and killed, and I remember my mother telling me about it when I got home from school.  He was a great leader, and it was sad to see a man with so much promise, be shot down in the prime of his life.  The events that followed were completely crazy, with Jack Ruby shooting Lee Harvey Oswald on live TV.  I heard that Ruby was dying of cancer and the mob selected him to kill Oswald, and this led to all types of conspiracy theories which the Warren Commission did not do a good job of handling, as they were responsible for investigating the assignation.  Rumors spread about this being a payback for the Bay of Pigs fiasco in Cuba and Oswald being trained in Russia.  It was thought that he couldn’t have been a lone gunman, because he wasn’t that good of a marksman, even though he was a Marine.  The single-bullet theory, or magic bullet was just confusing, and hard to believe that it hit both President Kennedy and Texas Gov. John Connally.  I guess we didn’t have the technology to figure this out yet.

Written for Truthful Tuesday hosted by Di, where she asked, “Can you remember what you were doing or where you were when this happened, or if you were born after 1963, can you remember your whereabouts for other major historical events that have occurred since?”
