Just to Belittle You

The statement today is, “People only bring up your past when they are intimidated by you present”, which just doesn’t read right with me.  Those three words together “by you present” are God awful English and I get that some people actually talk that way, because this phrase is all over Pinterest, but it does not work for me.  Before I say something, I try to sound it out and this phrase should not fly.  You have to be able to distinguish the meaning of the words that you use and not just spout things out of your mouth.  I think it should be “intimidated by your presence”, or “intimidated by you in the present”.  Anyways, I understand the meaning behind this saying, which to me would be said by an insecure close-minded person that wants to hurt you and they do this by attacking something that is in your past.

These a-holes will use something personally that you have probably told them in confidence that will embarrass you and hit you where it hurts.  They may be envious of you and since we all make mistakes and have regrets, they should be offering their forgiveness, instead of trying to slander you.  Most of us have embarrassing moments or chapters of our lives that we’re not particularly proud of and we all have moments that we would like to take back.  The last thing we need is someone publicly broadcasting or going on about our worst possible moments.  These stupid, irritating, contemptible people will seize on these moments from your past, continually attacking you because they don’t have their own lives to live, which is just sad.  Everyone is constantly changing and evolving as a person, and since your past is done and over, they should let it go.

The Fairest of Them All

Cynthia Rylant retells The Brothers Grimm story of Snow White in her 2009 40-page Juvenile Fiction Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.  Her book starts out with this line, “It is when we are most lost that we sometimes find our truest friends” and then she relates the story of the evil queen who cared about only one thing—that she was fairest of all.  This queen learns that Snow White has beauty that is greater than hers, so she sets out to destroy the girl.  It is then that Snow White finds herself lost, but lucky for her, she finds these seven little men who change her life forever.  They grow to love her as she does them.  When the Queen returns and all seems lost, love saves the day once more.  This book was used to set the tone for Walt Disney’s animated film which was released on October 6, 2009 as a Blu-ray Disc, marking the first time the film was ever shown in high definition.

A Code to Live By

It is often thought that the phrase, “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men” is attributed to Frederick Douglass, but the only quote of his that comes close to this is, “Once thoroughly broken down, who is he that can repair the damage?”.  Potatoes, potatoes, as they both seem to mean the same thing to me, that being a child that experiences an undo trauma will most likely carry that with them for the rest of their life and they will never be the same.  Adults can recover better from a deeply distressing or disturbing experience, because they have seen more of life, but children are special and they need to be protected as much as possible.

I’ll Climb This Tree

“You can’t fall if you don’t climb.  But there’s no joy in living your whole life on the ground.”  I have no idea who said this, but it reminded me of the song ‘Liberty’ that Jerry Garcia used to play.  Walt Whitman once said, “We must all be foolish at times, it is one of the conditions of liberty.”  You can take the easy route and live your life by sticking to your daily routine being afraid to go outside of your comfort zone.  But if you want to enjoy your life and be happy, you should take some risks, which will allow you to achieve extraordinary results.  Birds should not be walking, because they were made to fly.

Saw a bird with a tear in his eye
Walking to New Orleans my oh my
Hey, now, Bird, wouldn’t you rather die
Than walk this world when you’re born to fly?

If I was the sun, I’d look for shade
If I was a bed, I would stay unmade
If I was a river I’d run uphill
If you call me you know I will
If you call me you know I will

Ooo, freedom
Ooo, liberty
Ooo, leave me alone
To find my own way home
To find my own way home

Say what I mean and I don’t give a damn
I do believe and I am who I am
Hey now Mama come and take my hand
Whole lotta shakin’ all over this land

If I was an eagle I’d dress like a duck
Crawl like a lizard and honk like a truck
If I get a notion I’ll climb this tree
or chop it down and you can’t stop me
Chop it down and you can’t stop me

Ooo, freedom
Ooo, liberty
Ooo, leave me alone
To find my own way home
To find my own way home

Went to the well but the water was dry
Dipped my bucket in the clear blue sky
Looked in the bottom and what did I see?
The whole damned world looking back at me

If I was a bottle I’d spill for love
Sake of mercy I’d kill for love
If I was a liar I’d lie for love
Sake of my baby I’d die for love
Sake of my baby I’d die for love

Ooo, freedom
Ooo, liberty
Ooo, leave me alone
To find my own way home
To find my own way home
I’m gonna find my own way home

It Gets Cold in November

Emily Dickinson once said, “November always seems to me the Norway of the year.”  I have never been to Norway, but I did go to Sweden which is close by, however I went there in the late summer, so the weather was nice.  There were lots of signs around warning drivers about moose which is both plural and singular, so there is no such thing as meese, or mooses.  It seems that the moose get drunk eating fermented berries and you don’t want to run into them with your cars.  I was in Scotland in the winter and it was cold up there and the days were very short and because of that people got depressed and they went to pubs to drink.

I was out in Milwaukee a few years back visiting relatives in August and I decided to take my wife out to see the Milwaukee Brewers play, so we drove over to the stadium and got tickets.  I was dressed in a short sleeve shirt, wearing shorts and sandals because it was a really nice day, but it got so cold with that wind blowing in from Lake Michigan that we had to leave the game in the fifth inning.  I started getting cold after the second inning and I went to the souvenir stand and bought a jersey and some socks, but the temperature kept dropping, so we left and listened to the rest of the game on the radio on our way back to my grandmother’s house.  We were staying out in the driveway in an RV and we had plenty of blankets, but we had to huddle together as the temperature went down to 10 degrees Fahrenheit that night and it felt like we were in Norway.

Black Sabbath Concert

Jim said, “We are going to have a great time because this group is much more than just a metal band, as they are the ones who brought Satanism and the occult into the world of mainstream music.  Their bassist, Geezer Butler woke up one night and he thought that Satan was in his apartment asking him to pledge his allegiance, but he also stated that this vision may have been induced by taking too many drugs.  I have seen them many times in concert, but I have yet to see them get naked and leap all over the stage, or conjure up the devil.”  Kate said, “If I see the devil, I am so out of here.”

I’m Your Captain

Everybody, listen to me and return me my ship.  I’m your captain, I’m your captain, though I’m feeling mighty sick.  I’ve been lost now, days uncounted, and its months since I’ve seen home.  Can you hear me, can you hear me, or am I all alone?  A revolt was underway on the ship and all the other sea dogs had abandoned ship.

Curiouser and Curiouser

What strange things will I find in here?  It smells kind of nice and since the male died after we mated, life must go on.  I performed the 50 ways to shag my lover and I was able to store his sperm in my vagina, which allows me to determine the sex of my offspring.  Now I can lay my eggs and fertilize them here, as this looks like a nice place to build a nest.

Something is Stuck in the Hopper

Sam said, “This is pissing me off, as this is the third time that I had to come out here on the production floor to see what is causing the jam to the feeder.  The product isn’t making it to the vibratory feeder because the agitator keeps breaking down.  Hand me that flat blade screw driver and I will need that ratchet to remove the retaining plate.”  George handed Sam the tools that he asked for and he said, “What do you see down there?”  Sam said, “It looks like the agitator solenoid may be broken, see if you can get the engineer out her to diagnose this, as I have done all that I can do.”  George said, “What should I tell him?”  Sam replied, “Tell him that the foot bone is connected to the ankle bone, no just go get him.”

All About the Hairs

Most lizards have four finger pads on their front legs and five toe pads on their back legs, which are covered with rows of hairs that produce electrical attractions which can literally glue the animals down to whatever they want to stick to.  They have the ability to walk up walls and cling to ceilings and when they want to break the molecular attraction, they curl their toes to set themselves free, which is sort of like moving a sticky note from one place to another.  These attractive forces are weak, but when you accumulate millions of hairs, some of these lizards can hang on during hurricane force winds.

Where I live in central Florida, there are lots of lizards and a group of lizards is called a “Lounge” of lizards, which makes sense, because they always look like they are lounging around.  A while ago, I pulled out of my driveway and I saw this lizard was stuck on to my rear windshield and I wondered how long he would hang on before he fell off.  I’m guessing that it was a he, but it may have been a she, as I have no way to determine that.  Anyway, I turned the corner and that sucker was still hanging on.  I wanted him to jump off, so he wouldn’t get hurt but I don’t even know if lizards can get hurt, as I never tried to understand their feelings.  They are rubbery looking creatures and I figured that if he did fall off, that he would probably just bounce around a bit and roll to a stop.

I know that my cats like to torture them, biting their tails off, which supposedly grow back, but I always try to get the lizards away from the cats before they end up dead.  I don’t like to cause any creature pain, but I needed to get on the highway to reach my destination.  When I got on the highway, I drove faster and this lizard was still hanging on.  I eventually saw that he was gone and I felt bad for him, but he was just an annoying lizard and there are plenty more here.
