A Marvelous Thing

I don’t see the internet as being a distraction and I use it all the time to help me with my writing, as it gives me access to information that is not inside of my head.  I guess if you are addicted to social media, then it would be a distraction, as you would be checking it all day long to see what your friends say about what is going on.  That is not me, as I am not on social media and I don’t have any friends, so the internet is a tool for me.  I went through some periods of my life where I was hooked on playing games and I couldn’t get away from my computer, but I have never played any online games.  I agree that distractions are not good for a writer, because when your train of thought is interrupted it could take a while for you to get back on track.  Although some distractions can also be a blessing, as they provide you with the opportunity to rethink and develop a new strategy.  Writing is a combination of talent and practice, but it also requires the willingness to complete a task and therefor you want to try to avoid any unnecessary interruptions.

  1. I use the internet for work constantly…you learn how to search google after a while. I also use it for my pursuit of trivial knowledge… when I first got a computer… I searched for questions I had about pop culture.
