Not as Important as Real Music

Most novelty songs are written to make people laugh rather than stirring up emotions deep inside of their soul, but a lot of these songs are very enjoyable, even when they are plain goofy.  I am not trying to point you in any particular direction, but when I think about novelty songs, I think of “Weird Al” Yankovic, Shel Silverstein, Ray Stevens or Tom Lehrer as these guys wrote some really great novelty songs.  I am certain that everyone has a favorite novelty song and I expect this challenge to be a lot of fun this week.

Last week we had Human Speech where the theme was to find songs that include the lyrics Sounds, Talk, Voice, Words suggested by Di of pensitivity101.  This week the theme is Novelty songs suggested by Di of pensitivity101.  Take some time to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this music challenge, and even better, read as many of them as you are able to as you will probably find many enjoyable songs and it is quite possibly that you will learn a thing or two.  Share your music with others and post a video, try do some research and let everyone know something about the song that you post.  Tell everyone why you like the song, whether it was a hit, or what you think the song is about.  Show the lyrics, let’s all listen to our favorite songs and explore some new music.  Try to find a song that fits the theme, then write your post and create a pingback, or you can just place your link in the comments section.

Suggestions
• Try to use the prompt words or at least conform to a general theme, as you see it. If the song you select does not meet the criteria, then please explain why you chose this song.
• It would be good if you could post the lyrics to the song of your choice, as this is helpful for the people that want to follow along with the music.
• Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due. It would also be a good idea to give credit to the singer and the band associated with your song.
• Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be, but please try not to include too many videos as that just makes it take longer to look at all of the other posts.
• Link to the YouTube video, or you can pull it into your post, so others can listen to the song.
• Ping back to this post or place your link in the comments section below.
• Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
• Feel free to suggest future prompts.
• Have fun and enjoy the music.

This week I will be writing about the Daddy Dewdrop song ‘Chick-A-Boom’, and next week, I will be writing about the song ‘Hopelessly Devoted To You’ by Olivia Newton-John.  The upcoming prompts will be:
September 18, 2022 – Australian music
September 25, 2022 – Sweet, Honey, Sugar, Candy, Chocolate suggested by Angie of King Ben’s Grandma
October 2, 2022 – Died at the age of 27 club
October 9, 2022 – User Choice

  1. This is such a great fun idea!

I never seem to get the ping backs right so when I’m finished compiling my post on novelty songs I will post it here. After that I’m going to look for a good video explaining ping backs! 🤯 🤬 🤦🏼‍♀️

      1. That’s very kind of you, Jim, and it’s not my desire to take time away from your busy Sunday. If you can leave me some steps on the ping back process, that would be great – at your own convenience, of course; I’m still working on my post. I’m also going to check out some videos which may help. Thanks again. I appreciate you! 🐘

  2. Well, it is Song Lyrics Sunday after all. This is their best song (yes, the others weren’t geat lol)

    Come on everybody
    It’s gibbon time

    We’re the Goodies
    How do you do?
We’ve just been down to the zoo
We saw a monkey in a cage
    Doing a dance
    That could be the rage
    It’s not hard
So let’s all do the funky gibbon
    Ooo, ooo, ooo

Do, do, do the funky gibbon
    (The funky gibbon)
We are here to show you how
    Ooo, ooo, ooo
Ooo, ooo, ooo, the funky gibbon
    He’s just like you
    So come on and do
    The funky gibbon now

    Dogs are always howlin’
    Cats are always yowlin’
    But gibbons only
    Like to sing and dance
    Oop, oop, sh boop

    You’ll be like that monkey
    Get a little funky
    And in a while
    Start to smile
    Gibbon half a chance

Do, do, do the funky gibbon
    (The funky gibbon)

    Ooo, ooo, the funky gibbon
Ooo, ooo, ooo the funky gibbon

Gee, the world would be good
    I ?????
Me, with just a little gibbon tea
    Sha, la, la

    We slap that gibbon
    Oh, feel the rhythm
    And you’ll groove
And dance up to the planet of apes

Do, do, do the funky gibbon
We are here to show you how
    Ooo, ooo, ooo
Ooo, ooo, ooo, the funky gibbon

    Now everybody get ready
    To do the funky gibbon
Drop one arms down by your knees
    And the other arm
    Reach up to the trees

    Let your wrist go limp
    Like a bent baboon
    Get ready to sing
    This gibbon’s tune

Will you give me an ooo
    (Ooo)
Will you give me another ooo
    (Ooo)
And will you give me an ooo
    (Ooo)
    Now put ’em together
    What’ve you got
    (Ooo, ooo, ooo)

Do, do, do the funky gibbon
We are here to show you how
    Ooo, ooo, ooo
Ooo, ooo, ooo, the funky gibbon

    Ooo, ooo, the funky gibbon
Ooo, ooo, ooo the funky gibbon

    Ooo, ooo, the funky gibbon
Ooo, ooo, ooo the funky gibbon

    He promised to buy me
    A bunch of blue gibbons
To tie up my bonny brown

    Ooo, ooo, the funky gibbon
    The funky gibbon
