Human Speech

People make sounds, and we talk with our voices by making words.  Helen Keller’s first word was water and this was said to be a miracle.  Helen had learned words that were spelled out in her hand to her by her teacher Anne Sullivan.  Anne took Helen to the water pump outside and placed Helen’s hand under the spout.  As the water flowed over one hand, Anne spelled into her other hand the word “w-a-t-e-r”, first slowly, then rapidly.  Helen’s brain made a connection with the words that were spelled out in her hand and the wonderful cool liquid that was flowing over her hand.  I love that 1962 movie The Miracle Worker with Patty Duke and Anne Bancroft.  I imagine that water must have been one of the first words that man learned when humans first started to talk.

Last week we had Another Candle on Your Cake where the theme was to find songs that got Better with Age: Failed or Overlooked Songs that Eventually Became Fan Favorites suggested by Greg’s Blog.  This week the theme is songs that include the lyrics Sounds, Talk, Voice, Words suggested by Di of pensitivity101.  Take some time to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this music challenge, and even better, read as many of them as you are able to as you will probably find many enjoyable songs and it is quite possibly that you will learn a thing or two.  Share your music with others and post a video, try do some research and let everyone know something about the song that you post.  Tell everyone why you like the song, whether it was a hit, or what you think the song is about.  Show the lyrics, let’s all listen to our favorite songs and explore some new music.  Try to find a song that fits the theme, then write your post and create a pingback, or you can just place your link in the comments section.

Suggestions
• Try to use the prompt words or at least conform to a general theme, as you see it.  If the song you select does not meet the criteria, then please explain why you chose this song.
• It would be good if you could post the lyrics to the song of your choice, as this is helpful for the people that want to follow along with the music.
• Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due. It would also be a good idea to give credit to the singer and the band associated with your song.
• Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be, but please try not to include too many videos as that just makes it take longer to look at all of the other posts.
• Link to the YouTube video, or you can pull it into your post, so others can listen to the song.
• Ping back to this post or place your link in the comments section below.
• Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
• Feel free to suggest future prompts.
• Have fun and enjoy the music.

This week I will be writing about the Beatles song ‘Let It Be’, and next week, I will be writing about the song ‘Chick-A-Boom’ by the Daddy Dewdrop.  The upcoming prompts will be:
September 11, 2022 – Novelty songs suggested by Di of pensitivity101
September 18, 2022 – Australian music
September 25, 2022 – Sweet, Honey, Sugar, Candy, Chocolate suggested by Angie of King Ben’s Grandma
October 2, 2022 – Died at the age of 27 club

  1. This is Talk Talk’s second single from the debut album; The Party’s Over. Lead singer Mark Hollis is still very much missed.

    Hey

Well, did I tell you before when I was up?
    Anxiety was bringing me down
I’m tired of listening to you talking in rhymes
Twisting ’round to make me think you’re straight down the line

All you do to me is talk, talk
    Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk

    Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk

If every sign that I see is complete
Then I’m a fool in your game
And all you want to do is tell me your lies
Won’t show the other side, you’re just wasting my time

All you do to me is talk, talk
    Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk
    Talk, talk, talk, talk

All you do to me is talk, talk
When every choice that I make is yours
Keep telling me what’s right and what’s wrong
Don’t you ever stop to think about me?

I’m not that blind to see that you’ve been cheating on me
You’re laughing at me when I’m up
I see you when you’re crying for me when I’m down
I see you when you’re laughing at me when I’m up
I see you when you’re crying for me

All you do to me is talk, talk
    Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk
    Talk, talk, talk, talk

All you do to me is talk, talk
    Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk
    Talk, talk, talk, talk

All you do to me is talk, talk
    Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk
    Talk, talk, talk, talk

All you do to me is talk, talk
    Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk
    Talk, talk, talk, talk

All you do to me is talk, talk
    Talk, talk, talk, talk
All you do to me is talk, talk
    Talk, talk, talk, talk
