A Sex Song

Steve Kipner and Terry Shaddick wrote ‘Physical’ which Olivia Newton-John took to #1 in the US and it reached #7 in the UK being released on her 1981 album of the same name.  This song became the best-selling single of the ‘80s, staying at #1 for 10 weeks, at the time it was only surpassed by Elvis’s ‘Hound Dog’, which held the top spot for 11 weeks.  They wrote this song about the physical aspect of love and ignored the emotions.  The song was released about a month after MTV went on the air, and that helped to make it a hit.  This guy she is dating enjoys talking with her and he takes her out to diner, and to some movies, but her goal is to get in bed with him.  She is not interested in engaging in any conversation with him, as she just wants to hear his body talk.  She feels that she has been patient long enough with this man and now she wants what he has.  They have established a deep emotional connection and she feels that it is time to bring out the animal that is inside of her.

I’m saying all the things that I know you’ll like
Making good conversation
I gotta handle you just right
You know what I mean
I took you to an intimate restaurant
Then to a suggestive movie
There’s nothing left to talk about
Unless it’s horizontally

Let’s get physical, physical
I want to get physical
Let’s get into physical
Let me hear your body talk, your body talk
Let me hear your body talk

Let’s get physical, physical
I want to get physical
Let’s get into physical
Let me hear your body talk, your body talk
Let me hear your body talk

I’ve been patient, I’ve been good
Tried to keep my hands on the table
It’s gettin’ hard this holdin’ back
If you know what I mean

I’m sure you’ll understand my point of view
We know each other mentally
You gotta know that you’re bringin’ out
The animal in me

Let’s get physical, physical
I want to get physical
Let’s get into physical
Let me hear your body talk, your body talk
Let me hear your body talk

Let’s get physical, physical
I want to get physical
Let’s get into physical
Let me hear your body talk, your body talk
Let me hear your body talk

Oh let’s get physical, physical
I want to get physical
Let’s get into physical
Let me hear your body talk, your body talk
Let me hear your body talk

Let’s get animal, animal
I want to get animal
Let’s get into animal
Let me hear your body talk, your body talk
Let me hear your body talk

Let me hear your body talk
Let me hear your body talk

  1. Very sad to hear of the passing of Olivia Newton-John. She almost didn’t want to play the part of Sandy in ‘Grease’ because she thought she was too old at 29.
Yes, this was one ‘hot’ video.

      1. For my Song Lyric Sunday, I had the themes of Canadian music on September 20, 2020 and American music on July 4, 2021, so now I am going to have the theme for September 18, 2022 be Australian music in case you want to share some of your music Paul.
