Brutally Honest

Fill in: ‘If I were really completely honest, I would say that …’ This is a question for ‘radical honesty’. What are the things you wouldn’t normally say? Things you would otherwise actually hide?  What’s on your mind? What would you really like to be able to say?
This past weekend, I did terrible on my football picks, and I was actually hoping that Tom Brady would break his leg during the game.  Seriously, I don’t want to see anyone get hurt playing football and I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy, but I was hoping that Brady would get sacked, fumble the ball, or throw some interceptions.  He is on Tampa Bay now and I should be rooting for him as Tampa is the most local team for me, but I built up this hatred for him after he disposed of his phone during deflategate to avoid prosecution.  This allegation happened when he was the New England Patriots quarterback and he ordered the deliberate deflation of footballs to make it easier for his receivers to catch the ball, which was cheating, and he got away with it and I could never cheer for him.

The latest thing that pissed me off about him is his latest commercial, as now he is hawking cryptocurrencies.  This is shameful, as this guy has made enough money and bitcoins allow criminals to make even more cyber-attacks, but why should he care, as he has always been all about himself.

Have you ever broken anything? What about rules?
Everyone breaks things and some rules are made to be broken.  I have never broken any bones and I doubt that I ever broke anyone’s heart.  I have broken the law and I spent a night in jail, but I never went to prison.  I went to a barbecue party at my friend’s house, and I broke 4 of his lawn chairs, which in my opinion were kind of flimsy and they collapsed because they were not able to support my weight.

*******************************************

Are you also afraid of spiders? What is your biggest fear, other than spiders?  (if you’re not afraid of spiders, use your biggest phobia instead).
I don’t know anyone who is fond of spiders, except for Spiderman or the Black Widow, however my biggest fear is probably heights.  I don’t like looking out of the window when I am on a plane and anything that is over 30 feet high scares me.

Do you think time goes faster as you get older?
I know that time slows down as you travel fast enough to approach the speed of light, because momentum bends the fabric of spacetime causing time to pass slower.  I realize that people may not perceive time passing at the same rate that a clock measures it, and this could relate to that old saying of a watched pot never boiling.  There is a
hypothesis which states that as we grow older, the rate at which we process visual information slows down, and this is what makes time seem to speed up, due to the size and complexity of the networks of neurons in our brains.  Thus, as we get older, our brains are filled up with more information, which makes the electrical signals traverse greater distances and signal processing takes more time and this leads to us thinking that time passing more rapidly.

GRATITUDE SECTION (as always, optional)
Please share something that really inspired you from this last week or month.
Everywhere I go, things are closing down due to the shortage of workers.  Places are changing their hours, closing their doors and some are only taking drive through customers because they can’t find workers to stay open.  This has inspired me to quit two voluntary positions that I have, one as a blogger of a bi-weekly post I write and the other being the editor of a local newsletter.  Both of these positions take up too much of my time, so I will be leaving as the host of the Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie MM Music prompt and Friday will be my last post.  I hope that someone else wants to take over this challenge, as I would love to continue to write in it, but with hosting Thursday Inspiration and Song Lyric Sunday, I have decided that this is too much for me.  I went to my neighborhood meeting today and I let them know that this will be the last newsletter that I will be writing for them.

Written for Melanie’s sparksfromacombustiblemind’s Share Your World.

  1. I also find 2 prompts per week to be the right amount of hosting for me. And oddly enough I also recently quit editing a newsletter! That wasn’t due to time though but because the prez kept allowing racist/political crap in it when it was supposed to be free from that 😡

  2. Hi Jim, Perfectly understand about the MLMM challenge. I stopped doing the Take 7 posts because it was too much for me. Has Dylan stopped posting too? Have noticed a few MLMM regulars have gone AWOL.

    1. It is an odd group as we never communicate with each other, and I was looking for First Line Friday the other day and there was nothing. I think the hosts are all very qualified but overall, we are not very organized,

  3. I wouldn’t have the balls to deflate footballs.
Do you think time goes faster as you get older? – Yes, it seems the older I get the slower I get but time goes faster and over-takes me!

  4. Spiders never bothered me… heights and snakes are my fears.
Reaccuring nightmare since childhood…falling from the sky into a snakepit…my two fears in one dream.

      1. We see them every year… mostly chicken snakes which I won’t harm…but you always have to be on the lookout for the three bad ones…copperheads, rattlesnakes, and the worse…cottonmouths.

  5. Thanks Jim for Sharing Your World! I’d be interested in the MMLM ‘position’ if nobody else wants to do it. I only host one prompt, this one, right now, and although this particular week has been a disaster in the realm of blogging in a timely manner, I don’t feel that a music prompt would be too far fetched. If someone else has volunteered though, no biggie. A lot of folks are phobic of heights, my father was, and I remember going up the mountain trail to Timpanogos Caves (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Timpanogos) with him and him clutching the mountain side with both fists. He didn’t do heights either. Someone else who answered with that same phobia decided that it was fear of falling more than fear of heights. I get that. Very scientific answer about time and logical too. That makes perfect sense to me. I’m not surprised to hear that there’s yet another ‘hero’ (to some) with feet of crumbling clay. The “heroes” of this generation stupefy me. How is a corrupt lying assh*le any kind of idol for anyone? Good pick. The lawn chair saga made me laugh. I went to a BBQ at my brother’s house and sat in one of those cheesy plastic lawn chairs and was promptly dumped on my butt in the grass. He was upset, and I told him the thing had to be at least fifty years old (a slight exaggeration), plus he’d left it outdoors for many years and plastic doesn’t do well with extreme heat or cold. I say let us start a movement that says hosts who have guests who are a larger size, HAVE to have sturdy lawn furniture. I’ve taken to asking, and bringing my own, but I only ever broke the one. It happens. We’ve covered gratitude a bit already, but you explained something for me today with that answer. My usual fast food places for breakfast have worsening service (even though it is only drive thru, no open doors). Today there were maybe two people (or three) for the morning rush. Those businesses are losing a LOT of money, and the greedy attitude after Covid was less prevalent makes me think they deserve to close. Who raises their prices by 50% or more if they’re losing business? A gripe for another day. Thanks again Jim, and have a fabulous week!

    1. I think it would be great for you to take over the host position for the MM Music challenge, but the Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie site is run Yves who does the Sunday Writing Prompt and the Monday Wordle and you would need her permission to get privileges. I will help you get started and I could always be a fill-in for you if you get too busy. I will write to Yves aka Candice and let her know that you would be interested. I will give you a list of all the songs that have ever been used on this challenge and it will also tell you who hosted it. Yves went through a bad divorce about a year ago and that has taken up a lot of her time, so it may take a while for you to get started, but if all goes well, it would be great if you had a song ready for February 4th.

      1. Super! Thanks for letting her know that information and I’ll wait to hear what transpires, plus have something in mind for February 4th. Thanks Jim! You’ve done a great job, but it’s good that you know your boundaries! 🙂
