Beach, Flowers, Hot and Humid

An atoll is a ring-shaped coral reef, island, or series of islets.  The atoll surrounds a body of water called a lagoon.  Before Charles Darwin came up with his famous theory about evolution, he took a voyage on the HMS Beagle to chart reef systems around the world, and he formed a theory for the formation of reef systems.  Corals were an important topic at this time as many ships were wrecked on unexpected reefs.  Charles Darwin grouped coral reefs into three distinct types: barrier, fringing, and atolls.  He then explained that each reef type was really a separate stage of reef development around a slowly sinking volcanic island.  Today, Darwin’s theory is universally accepted as a means of explaining these reef formations.  A reef is a ridge or shoal of rock, coral or similar relatively stable material, lying beneath the surface of a natural body of water.  Reef-building corals are only found in shallow tropical and subtropical waters.  A key is a type of island.  The main difference between a key and an island is that a cay is formed on the surface of a coral reef, while a regular island is a piece of sub-continental land that is surrounded by water.  A cay forms when ocean currents transport loose sediment across the surface of a reef to a depositional node, where the current slows or converges with another current, releasing its sediment load.  Gradually, layers of deposited sediment build up on the reef surface.  An island is a secluded piece of land surrounded by water on all sides whereas peninsula is a piece of land surrounded by water on only three sides.

Last week we had Human Connections where the theme was Communication, Information, News, Telephone suggested by Di of pensitivity101.  This week the theme is Atoll, Island, Key, Lagoon, Peninsula, Reef, Tropical suggested by Tales from the mind of Kristian.  Take some time to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this music challenge, and even better, read as many of them as you are able to as you will probably find many enjoyable songs and it is quite possibly that you will learn a thing or two.  Share your music with others and post a video, try do some research and let everyone know something about the song that you post.  Tell everyone why you like the song, whether it was a hit, or what you think the song is about.  Show the lyrics, let’s all listen to our favorite songs and explore some new music.  Try to find a song that fits the theme, then write your post and create a pingback, or you can just place your link in the comments section.

Here are the “rules”:
• Try to use the prompt words or at least conform to a general theme, as you see it.  If the song you select does not meet the criteria, then please explain why you chose this song.
• It would be good if you could post the lyrics to the song of your choice, as this is helpful for the people that want to follow along with the music.
• Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due. It would also be a good idea to give credit to the singer and the band associated with your song.
• Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be, but please try not to include too many videos as that just makes it take longer to look at all of the other posts.
• Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song.
• Ping back to this post or place your link in the comments section below.
• Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
• Feel free to suggest future prompts.
• Have fun and enjoy the music.

  1. Not one of Blondie’s best singles if I’m honest!

    In Babylon
On the boulevard of broken dreams
My will power at the lowest ebb
    Oh what can I do?
    Oh buccaneer
Can ya help me put my truck in gear?
Can ya take me far away from here?
    Save my soul from sin?

You want to get away you’ve had it man
    Nothing’s going right
So come sit on the sands of the island
    Island of Lost Souls

    No luxuries, no no amenities
    Too dull, your senses
    Oh oh only primitive
“Hey hey really get away” is what he said

    Where did he go?
I’m tired of waiting here for him
    Where can he be?
    He’s not with me
    Where did he go?
    What will I do alone?
Why did he run, run away from me?

The sky is blue the sea is warm and clear
And golden sands are calling out to you inviting
Make a new man out of you

You can come for a while come with a friend
Forget about work start all over again
Let the real you through, here’s what we do

    Where did he go?
I’m tired of waiting here for him
    Where can he be?
    He’s not with me
    Where did he go?
    What will I do alone?
Why did he run, run away from me?

    Oh buccaneer
Can ya help me put my truck in gear?
Can ya take me far away from here?
    Save my soul from sin?

    No luxuries, no no amenities
    Too dull, your senses
