Improving Comprehension

When you scrutinize the details of anything, that should help to make abstract ideas more concrete, and hopefully this could reduce any of the confusion between related concepts.  The key to comparing and contrasting anything, is being able to form a meaningful connection between two items.  Today, you will select two songs and discuss some type of relevant association between them.  You may want to focus on the similarities and the differences between your chosen songs.  You can pick apples and oranges and discuss how they are the same and how they are totally different, no one will be judging you, as how you proceed is entirely up to you to decide.  You could go with two songs that have the same music genre, or different, or come from the same era, or not, or are played at the same speed, or not.  You could break the pieces down, and compare and contrast them in terms of their melody, rhythm, harmony, instrumentation, or state why these songs sound the same to you.  You could pick two different songs by the same artist.  Maybe you could go with two different songs that Nicky Hopkins played on, like one where he recorded with the Who, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, John Lennon, Jeff Beck, Jefferson Airplane, Steve Miller, Quicksilver Messenger Service, or the Jerry Garcia band, and see how that works.  This approach could be used for any session player like Jimmy Page, or any one of the Wrecking Crew, or the Swampers from Muscle Shoals.  I know this challenge is a bit off of our normal, but at least I didn’t ask you to compare and contrast meiosis versus mitosis, or to give a diagnosis on halitosis, or a prognosis on tuberculosis.

Last week we had Background Music, and some people were confused, but it produced so many great songs, albeit they were in the elevator genre, I think that everyone had a good time with that prompt, and I know I did.  This week we have something different and possibly more challenging, where you will select two different songs and compare and contrast them.  Take some time to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this music challenge, and even better, read as many of them as you are able to as you will probably find many enjoyable songs and it is quite possibly that you will learn a thing or two.  Share your music with others and post a video, try do some research and let everyone know something about the song that you post.  Tell everyone why you like the song, whether it was a hit, or what you think the song is about.  Show the lyrics, let’s all listen to our favorite songs and explore some new music.  Try to find a song that fits the prompt, then write your post and create a pingback, or you can just place your link in the comments section.

• Try to use the prompt words or at least conform to a general theme, as you see it. If the song you select does not meet the criteria, then please explain why you chose this song.
• It would be good if you could post the lyrics to the song of your choice, as this is helpful for the people that want to follow along with the music.
• Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due. It would also be a good idea to give credit to the singer and the band associated with your song.
• Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be, but please try not to include too many videos as that just makes it take longer to look at all of the other posts.
• Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song.
• Ping back to this post or place your link in the comments section below.
• Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
• Feel free to suggest future prompts.
