Internet Dating

Ever since social-distancing measures have removed the ease of meeting people from the equation, I have been thinking about finding a dating site, but I am not sure which one to choose.  I am not interested in any of those hookup sites, as I am not looking for flings, I don’t want to date married women, and I am not really after casual sex, or sex with no strings attached.  I just want to meet a normal person that lives in my area and have my own sacred space where I can chat with them.  I would love to find a dating site where I don’t have to answer a bunch of questions, and I can just browse profiles.  I don’t believe in soulmates, but I am certain that there is somebody out there that would be compatible for me.

The last time that I was involved in online dating, I kept meeting girls from Nigeria and I am a lot smarter now.  I don’t want to give up my privacy to find a date, but I read that many dating apps collect plenty of intimate information about their users, and they know things that should be none of their business.  Some dating sites will sell all the data that they collected on you to online marketers and there isn’t anything that you can do about it.  I don’t want anyone eavesdropping on my conversations, which I consider to be private.  I certainly don’t want to give hackers, or predators, or any cybercriminals the opportunity to steal my personal information and end up having this used against me.

There are so many liars out there in cyber land and it is really hard to trust anyone on the internet these days and I guess that is why I quit years ago.  Almost everyone lies on their dating profile, but some of these people can end up being really dangerous.  I am not in a rush to find a match and I realize that I will have to put some of my personal information on my profile, but I don’t think of the world as being my digital oyster when it comes to finding love.  Many people are too willing to share their personal data with everyone, but I read that a lot of this data is being stolen or leaked from many of these dating services, so I just want to be careful to maintain my sacred spaces.

    1. From reading your posts Paula, I realize why you are not keen on it and basically I was just looking for something to write about so I could meet the prompt and I am still reluctant to put myself through the ordeal of doing this again, but I still would like to have someone special in my life.
