Such A Jerk

One way or another, someone has to kick that guy right in his head, what on Earth is he trying to do, he better get himself together before Karma bites him in his ass.  There is no reason for him to be threating this poor little girl, who by the way seems completely innocent to me, so harsh.  He admits to being a wicked guy with a jealous mind, but that is no excuse for this type of behavior.  I can’t see anyone in their right mind ever singing about domestic abuse where women get beaten and battered by their man, but it does happen.  March is all about celebrating the accomplishments of women, but we also need to do something for the ones that need protection.  When a man threatens to take a girl’s head off and tells her that she better run for her life, then that man has gotten too angry and I think that they have classes for that now, but don’t go if Jack Nicholson ends up being the instructor.

This guy would rather see his girl dead, than her be with another man, but this song never discusses if he is also being faithful and it doesn’t give any reason for anyone to suspect that his girl is actually cheating on him.  That is what puts this song a bit over the edge into making me think that this guy probably enjoys beating his woman and he is looking for any excuse to take his belt off and give her a good whacking.  He says that he is willing to spend his whole life, just to make her toe the line, which doesn’t tell me that he is a man of convictions, it screams that this gut is a nut job.  I am not sure if this girl is hiding her head in the sand or not, but she needs to wake up, smell the coffee and run for her life, as fast as she can, because if she doesn’t get away from this dangerous dude soon, she may not get another opportunity.

Well, I’d rather see you dead, little girl
Than to be with another man
You better keep your head, little girl
Or I won’t know where I am

You better run for your life if you can, little girl
Hide your head in the sand, little girl
Catch you with another man
That’s the end, little girl

Well, you know that I’m a wicked guy
And I was born with a jealous mind
And I can’t spend my whole life
Trying just to make you toe the line

You better run for your life if you can, little girl
Hide your head in the sand, little girl
Catch you with another man
That’s the end, little girl

Let this be a sermon
I mean everything I’ve said
Baby, I’m determined
And I’d rather see you dead

You better run for your life if you can, little girl
Hide your head in the sand, little girl
Catch you with another man
That’s the end, little girl

I’d rather see you dead, little girl
Than to be with another man
You better keep your head, little girl
Or you won’t know where I am

You better run for your life if you can, little girl
Hide your head in the sand, little girl
Catch you with another man
That’s the end, little girl

Na, na, na
Na, na, na
Na, na, na
Na, na, na

  1. Treating a human as ‘owned real estate’ is at the root of many social evils, not just couple conflicts.

There should be hashtags with ‘ungoals’ rather than the couplegoals, moneygoals and many more we keep reading everywhere about

  2. I think he stole the line from an Elvis song. Baby Let’s Play House…yes he did…I’d rather see you dead, little girl…Than to be with another man

  3. It got overlooked by the other songs on Revolver like Taxman, Good Day Sunshine, Eleanor Rigby, And Your Bird Can Sing, Yellow Submarine, I’m Only Sleeping, Love You To, Here, There and Everywhere, She Said She Said, Got to Get You into My Life.

  4. To me? This is a case of the CONTEXT of the piece. I agree fully that the lyrics are horrible, in light of today’s sensitivity about domestic violence, women’s rights, and so forth. When the song was written (begged, borrowed, or stolen) things were less clear, they were becoming clear, but they hadn’t reached maturity as yet. Interesting song, GIVEN THE CONTEXT. Otherwise, I wouldn’t care for it either. But great use of the prompt Jim! Bravo!
