Gallstones and kidney stones can both be painful, but they are much better than having your name on a tombstone. Some people like to get stoned when they listen to the Rolling Stones. Paula made a reference to the movie Romancing the Stone today which has always been a favorite of mine, and that made me think about songs that contain stones.
I remember saying “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”, when I was a child and others were teasing me. ‘Sticks and Stones’ is an R&B song from 1960, written by Titus Turner and I have a version of this song from Joe Cocker,
Bob Dylan’s 1965 anthem ‘Like A Rolling Stone’ has been called the greatest song ever written and entire books have been written about this tune’
‘(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone’ is a 1966 rock song written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart that was first recorded by Paul Revere & the Raiders, but it is probably best known by The Monkees.
‘Don’t Throw Stones’ is a 1979 song written by Stephen Cummings, and Andrew Pendlebury from the Australian rock and pop band The Sports.
The Grateful Dead song ‘Throwing Stones’ was written by john Barlow and Bob Weir in 1983.
Here is a new song from 2019 by The Hawkeyes who are from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ‘Stone’s Throw Away’ and this one rocks.
Written for Paula Light’s 6 Degrees #5.
