‘I Turn to You’ is a song from Christina Aguilera’s 1999 self-titled debut album, Christina Aguilera. The song was written by Diane Warren and first recorded by the group All-4-One in 1996, but it did not chart for the male R&B and pop group. The song went to number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the only single from the album to not go to number one. Famous songwriter Diane Warren was hired to write material for the album, and suggested that ‘I Turn to You’ would be perfect for her voice. The music video for ‘I Turn to You’ was directed by Joseph Kahn and its storyline follows a young woman getting into an accident, after arguing with her mother. Later, her mother is seen worriedly waiting for word on where she is at the late hour. The video ends with the girl being given the support she needs by her mother. Christina is seen singing in front of a microphone before walking in the rain with an umbrella, and on a rooftop.
Diane Warren rose to prominence in 1983, she turning in a Top 10 hit for Laura Branigan with the song ‘Solitaire’, and since she has written songs for and co-written songs with multiple singers, as well as for several films. Warren has written nine number-one songs and 32 top 10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She wrote ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now’ which went to #1 for Starship in 1987, ‘Look Away’ which reached #1 in 1988 for Chicago, ‘Blame It on the Rain’ which reached #1 in 1989 for Milli Vanilli, ‘When I See You Smile’ going to #1 in 1989 for Bad English, ‘Love Will Lead You Back’ also reaching #1 in 1989 for Taylor Dayne, ‘Un-Break My Heart’ which reached #1 in 1996 for Toni Braxton, ‘Have You Ever?’ which reached #1 in 1998 for Brandy, ‘I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing’ also reaching #1 in 1998 for Aerosmith, ‘Because You Loved Me’ which went to #1 in 1996 for Céline Dion, and she has been a force the US Hot 100 chart for more than 30 years.

Diane Warren also wrote ‘Somebody’s Somebody’ for Christina Aguilera’s debut album.
When I’m lost, in the rain, in your eyes
I know I’ll find the light to light my way.
When I’m scared, losing ground, when my world is going crazy,
You can turn it all around yes
And when I’m down you’re there pushing me to the top.
You’re always there givin’ me all you’ve got.
For a shield from the storm, for a friend for a love to keep me safe and warm, I turn to you.
For the strength to be strong, for the will to carry on,
For everything you do for everything that’s true I turn to you, yes.
When I lose the will to win I just reach for you and I can reach the sky again.
I can do anything, ‘cause your love is so amazing,
Cause your love inspires me. And when I need a friend you’re always on my side,
Givin’ me faith to get me through the night.
For a shield (for a shield)
From the storm (from the storm)
For a friend, for a love to keep me safe and warm.
I turn to you. (I turn to you)
For the strength (for the strength)
To be strong for the will to carry on.
For everything you do I turn to you.
(oh yeah oh)
For the arms to be my shelter through all the rain.
For truth that will never change.
For someone to lean on.
For a heart I can rely on through anything.
For the one who I can run to
(so do you oh yeah)
For a shield from the storm, for a friend, for a love to keep me safe and warm
(to keep me safe and warm, yeah)
I turn to you (I turn to you)
For the strength (for the strength yea)
To be strong, for the will to carry on.
For everything you do (everything you do)
For everything that’s true
For everything you do
For everything that’s true
I turn to you.
