Prompts Are the Mainstay for Bloggers

Linda has concluded her Just Jot It January and Fandango just started up FFE where he provides a Daily Adage for us to write about.  Bee is doing her Love is in Da Blog again for February and Teresa who left over the WordPress scandal that Fandango reported about (and I for the life of me can’t remember the name of this) is back again with exciting new challenges.  It won’t be long before the April A-Z challenge is back here again and lucky for me, I have all of my topics picked out already.  I have already written 4 posts today and Bring Me My Newspaper got 22 views, Being a Perfectionist received 20 views, My Wife Anne de la Roch only got 9 views and Leaving Home and Exploring the World which got 6. That should have been enough writing for one day, but I am a glutton for punishment, so I decided to try and fit in 24 more prompt words, which may or may not be sagacious.

If I ignore the daily prompts, they could all dry up and blow away and then where would I be, left up the creek without a paddle most likely.  At times my responses may be uncouth and readers will pass them by with upturned noses, not willing to savor my aromatic phrases.  I could say that the devil made me do it when I write about sex and drugs, but that would be a lie, as Sexy savvy Sally could attest to.  I have a reluctance to follow the conventional rules for blogging and some people will find this to be imprudent, but I feel that it is fine and I hope others perceive my writing as being dulcet.  It has only been a few days since I last wrote a multi-prompt post and it was starting to feel like a century had passed by, so I was compelled to write this, just so I could feel alive again.

Every blogger must have a toolbox in their camp that they use for topics and the prompt challenges do this for me as they are the mainstay for my topics, but each blogger is different and everyone must develop their own discernment on how they will handle things.  I surrender to the prompts and let them take me to unknown places, without a sliver of an idea where I am heading.  They might lead me to a charcoal shadow, or lend a hand, or elbow me to open wide, or just settle under a willow and gaze at a snowdrop.  I usually like to end my posts with a song, but today I have the Bohemian Rhapsody trailer for you.

Written for Sheryl’s Daily Word Prompt – Mainstay, for Roger Shipp’s Daily Addictions prompt – Wide, for the Daily Spur prompt – Camp, for Eugi’s Weekly Prompt – Alive, for FOWC with Fandango – Century, for January Writing Prompts – Sexy savvy Sally, for Ragtag Community – Aromatic, for Di’s Three Things Challenge prompt words – Willow Hand Shadow, for Word of the Day Challenge Prompt – Devil and for Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Wordle 166, hosted by Yves where the prompts are – Snowdrop Fine Uncouth Sagacious Upturned Dulcet Reluctance Follow Charcoal Surrender Elbow Sliver Discernment.

  1. I was just reminded of A to Z Blogging today and both cringed and grew excited lol. I have a full-time freelance job now and just am not able to write as much as I would want to (I do love short content) but it is what it is and I love being able to pay my bills. I think prompts can be a great way to get the old noggin thinking.

  2. I view prompts as a way to inspire us to write, not as a must. Some prompts inspire me while others don’t. I, like you, usually combine several prompts in one post which I enjoy because it is challenging. I find it fun to write a Haiku that responds to several prompts.

    Your writing is brilliant and you nail responding to several prompts in one post. You are the King of Prompts! I am always delighted when you respond to my weekly prompt.

    Great video, btw!

  3. Good post, Jim. I enjoy reading most of your posts. Sometimes I choose to skip the raunchier ones. I am looking forward to A-Z this year but haven’t picked a topic. It was going to be trees, but now I may go with essential oils or the things that get turned into essential oils.

        1. That is the first poem that I ever memorized. It is titled Trees and it was written by Joyce Kilmer.
          I think that I shall never see
          A poem lovely as a tree.
          A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
          Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
          A tree that looks at God all day,
          And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
          A tree that may in Summer wear
          A nest of robins in her hair;
          Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
          Who intimately lives with rain.
          Poems are made by fools like me,
          But only God can make a tree.

  4. i’m totally at random…well I hit childhood things and pop culture…so I don’t guess it’s totally random…except the few times I have a theme…

    1. Yes I realized that about you when I tried to persuade you into entering the Song Lyric Sunday challenge because you know so much about music and your taste is very similar to mine. Doing your own thing seems to work for you, but if you want to pick up more followers, then getting in some of the prompt challenges would help.

      1. I will…I could be switching jobs coming up which will help. I do my stuff ahead of time usually so I am hoping it will free up my weekend nights a little more.

  5. I admire bloggers who can tackle multiple writing/music prompts and blog awarding. I attempted it a couple of times, but my writing and book reviewing suffered because of it, so for now, SLS is enough for me. 🙂

  6. That scandal you referred to was when Tygpress was stealing and publishing our posts on its site without our permission. And it was actually Teresa who alerted a lot of us to it. I just took the baton and ran with it.

  7. I’ve been on here about 6 months now, my conclusion so far is that it is far more about reading than writing – I have to be prepared to spend time looking at what other people are writing. I enjoy prompts but I have to ignore some completely, just because I want to control the time I spend on WP. Those I do get involved in, again, most of them are pretty effortless to write but the reward is reading what other people have to say, and I have to keep prodding myself to do more of that.

  8. I blog to hone the art of writing, and find both challenge and sustenance in the prompts provided. Were I left to my own creative devises, I haven’t a clue what I would write about. Very interesting post.

  9. I love doing challenges and prompt posts, but have tried to cut back on a lot of them. They are so addictive I want to do all I see. Before I discovered any of these kinds, I actually ‘wrote’ stuff from my own experiences or imagination, but now I guess I take the easy way, which is fun, too. Still, I should get back to the beginnings. 🙂

    1. I am a pretty open person and I share a lot about myself, but not everything. A lot of people make their posts all about themselves and I find those to be boring. Prompts offer a nice variety to subject matter and I use them all the time, when I am able to.
