If an intelligent person does something stupid, that makes them stupid. In the movie Forrest Gump, several people ask him if he is stupid and he makes this reply, indicating that a person should be judged by his actions, not by his appearance. Fools are people who make their decisions quickly and not understanding the consequences of a situation can be dangerous. Oliver Hardy used to say to Stan Laurel, “Well, here’s another nice mess you’ve gotten me into”, because they were always getting into some kind of a predicament, as these two grown men had the minds of six-year-olds. They seemed to enjoy quarreling and tormenting each other, and they often got into improbable and dangerous situations, like nearly drowning, almost getting blown to bits, being brained into oblivion, yet they always managed to survive, because they were good friends who were bound together.
A wiser person would try to avoid getting into these predicaments, by thinking ahead and creating a better outcome. Fools rush in where angels fear to tread, because they don’t know what they are getting into. Wise men say only fools rush in, but I can’t help falling in love with you. Romantic love often requires spontaneity and that may involve you having to act a bit foolish at times.

I think the Laurel and Hardy gene was omitted from my body. I never found them even mildly amusing.

I think that you have to be in the mood to watch slapstick comedy and I put them on the same level as the Three Stooges, but back in the day, there really wasn’t much to watch.

I remember being quite amused by Laurel and Hardy. And no doubt they were a pair of fools always rushing into another nice mess. Thanks for playing, Jim.

Laurel and Hardy were somewhat influential to other comic duo’s that followed them.

Yes they were innovators, the ones that introduced new methods and ideas to comedy.
