Winter Garden is a city located 14 miles West of downtown Orlando, Florida, and it is about 12 miles East of where I live in Clermont. Florida also has a Winter Beach, a Winter Haven, a Winter Park and a Winter Springs. People say that there are two types of retired people in Florida, which are the snow birds and the frogs. The snow birds own homes here but they only go down for the winter, while the frogs own homes and they stay here until they croak. Florida may not see much snow, but it does have a town named Christmas, and people come from miles around to have their Christmas cards and holiday mail postmarked “Christmas, Florida!”

We have thought about moving there at times. Not that far south but on the Gulf side. At one time I started to looks for jobs around the Destin area. I love the atmosphere and the salt air.

I have never been up in the Panhandle, but I hear it is nice.

I was on vacation and some French people were there…I asked them why would they come here when they had the Mediterranean beach? This was Panama City and he said that the beaches here were the best he ever had traveled to…which surprised me.

There is a Christmas, Michigan also, in the UP, which really is like the North Pole a lot of the year. One of my friends and her husband are snowbirds who stay with their daughter and her family in Fort Myers. I think one day they will become frogs. Never heard that term before.

I will probably end up being a frog.

That’s a unique post office. Sadly most of our ‘stand-alone’ post offices have closed.

I never went there, but I see it on the news every year with people dropping their holiday cards off there.

We sure do love all of the “Winters” here in Central Florida! How long have you called Clermont home?
