All the kids called me tinsel teeth when I got my braces and they were fixed so I could not remove them, as they were glued to the front of each tooth and linked together with wires. I understood that my teeth were crooked and the braces would help harnesses my body’s natural ability to remodel its own tissue. All I wanted for Christmas was to have them taken off and when the day came, I jumped for joy. Excitement filled the air and love was all around, maybe I am being rash here, as I didn’t really know what love was all about yet, but I did wish to find out about that. I thought that I wouldn’t have to be shy around girls any more and maybe I could get lucky and connect with some babe.
It was not easy for me being ridiculed by the other kids, listening to them murmur about me and I even heard them chortle sometimes when I went by. I spent so much time crying in my room with red eyes and my parents would urge me to come out of the salty sanctuary, but I had the determination of a stone and when I did come out, all I would do is flop on the couch. They finally came off and I began to cherish my new smile. I was excited beyond all belief, but I still was not getting anywhere with the girls. Then on Valentine’s Day I got a card from Eve that said I was the reason for her smile.

The kids now have many more choices than when I was young.

The only braces (suspenders in USA) for me were to hold my trousers up!
