Girls Rock Your Boys

‘Cum on Feel the Noize’ is a song by the English glam rock band Slade, that they released in 1973 as a non-album single.  It was written by lead vocalist Noddy Holder and bassist Jim Lea, and it reached No. 1 in the UK, but only got to #98 in the US.  Slade was enormously popular in the UK, where they had 18 songs reach the Top 5, seven of them reached #1.  Slade became well known for being wild party boys and Holder felt inspired to write this song based on the connection that he felt with the audience.  ‘Cum On Feel the Noize’ entered the UK charts in 1973 at Number 1, which was the first time any single had done that since The Beatles’ ‘Get Back’.

In 1983, the American heavy metal band Quiet Riot recorded their own version of this song, which was a million-selling hit single in the United States, reaching No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went to #45 in the UK.  The song was recorded on their Metal Health album which went to the top of the Billboard 200, becoming the first album to do so.  Quiet Riot was a new band, doing music that nobody else was doing at the time and they had been recording since 1975 without a hit.  Quiet Riot was formed in Los Angeles in 1973 by guitarist Randy Rhoads and bassist Kelly Garni.  Vocalist Kevin DuBrow and drummer Drew Forsyth were also part of the original lineup.  Quiet Riot did not want to record this song, because it was not one of their own compositions and the day they went into the studio they tried to sabotage it, but it came out great.  The band is ranked at No. 100 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.

What the heck does “girls rock the boys” mean?  The lyrics are probably about having sex and partying and having a good time by getting wild, wild, wild.  Listen to the song, and let go of all of your inhibitions, be wild and have a great time like there is no tomorrow, and feel the noise.

Cum on feel the noize
Girls rock your boys
We get wild, wild, wild
Wild, wild, wild

So you think I got an evil mind
I’ll tell you honey
That I don’t know why
I don’t know why

So you think my singing’s out of time
It makes me money
And I don’t know why
And I don’t know why anymore
Oh no

Cum on feel the noize
Girls rock your boys
We get wild, wild, wild
Wild, wild, wild

Cum on feel the noize
Girls rock your boys
We get wild, wild, wild
Let it rock

So you think I got a funny face
I ain’t got no worries
And I don’t know why
And I don’t know why

Oh I gotta sing with some disgrace
I ain’t in no hurry
And I don’t know why
I don’t know why anymore
Oh no

Cum on feel the noize
Girls rock your boys
We get wild, wild, wild
Cum on feel the noize
Girls rock your boys
We get wild, wild, wild
Let it rock

Cum on

Cum on feel the noize
Girls rock your boys
Let’s get wild, wild, wild
Wild, wild, wild

Cum on feel the noize
Girls rock your boys
Let’s get wild, wild, wild
Let it rock
(Cum on)

Cum on
Feel it
Cum on
Rock it
We get wild, wild, wild
Wild, wild, wild

Cum on feel the noize
Girls rock your boys
We get wild, wild, wild
Let it rock

Cum on feel the noize
Girls rock your boys

  1. I always thought Slade should have been much more successful in America in the 70s. They finally had some success in the 80s with Run Runaway and My Oh My

  2. Ah yes, Slade; never to be taken seriously but infectiously catchy. Personally, I’d recommend ‘Gudbuy T’Jane’ (they used to get in trouble with the straight-laced press for wilful mis-spelling) if you want to hear any more. Their Christmas record – ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’ – is a ubiquitous earworm in every shopping mall in the UK from mid-October onwards.
