Rory Rhyming Verse

I was asked by Fandango to write one verse made up of four lines of a continuing rhyming poem that appears to have either an AABB rhyming scheme or an ABCB one. Rory calls this writing exercise Not Just My Verse, Your Two Two Too!

Rory is always starting these things

Why do you evade me so? It makes for no sense,
In truth, to do so unkindly and unwarranted, is nonsense!
I have tried counting all sorts, from stars to wide eyed sheep!
Yet still you, yes you decline me shut eye and valuable sleep!

Jay-lin of The Wonderful and Wacky World of one Single Mum

Tossing and turning pulling blankets near,
What is that noise that I hear?
It is not the sandman come for me,
Why won’t you let me sleep dear?

Gary of Bereaved Single Dad

Countless late night biscuits and black coffee,
Walking around like a spaced out zombie,
Listening to Cohen and Floyd on endless loop,
Convincing myself that no sleep is common in my age group.

Lorraine of Blind Wilderness

I toss and I turn
Oh when will I learn
That sleep is at bay
On an Away Day

Di at Pensitivity101

The stars are so bright at this time of night,
I look forward to slumbering deep,
As I close my tired eyes, what a surprise,
The brain wakes and I can’t get to sleep!

Teresa at The Haunted Wordsmith

The shadows creep along the wall
like predators waiting for me to fall.
My pillow–my shield; flashlight–my sword,
The most dangerous thing is a mind that’s bored.

Fandango took a turn

Wide awake, I turn and look at my clock to see
That it’s three a.m. and I have to get up to pee
Back in bed I close my eyes, then check my clock once more.
Oh my God, it’s not even four!

My Contribution

How do you sleep
What secrets do you keep
If I get home before daylight
I just might get some sleep tonight

I have to select someone who is a good sport to write the next 4-line verse to this continuing sleep poem and I choose Gabriela M of Short Prose – short prose, fiction, poetry to write the next installment. I hope that she is not to busy, so take it away Gabriela.

    1. I actually did not write anything, as I took a line from the John Lennon song ‘How Do You Sleep?’, which I followed with a line from The Romantics song ‘Talking In Your Sleep’ and I ended with two lines from the Grateful Dead song ‘Friend Of The Devil’.

  1. Great addition Jim 🙂

appologies for my lateness in responding, if it’s not Ping Backs failing to appear sometimes it is just comments. This comment literally just appeared in my pending file .

Rather astonishingly, l can see that you followed Fandango, and nothing has appeared from that at all. The last verse l saw was from Teresa. I really do feel that WP need to get their act together.

    However great addition 🙂

    1. Rory I run two different challenges here on WordPress and I have problems all the time, but I love the bloggers in this community. I usually try to do these things as fast as I can when I get tagged, because I want to get them over with and move on to my own writing. This was fun and I appreciate you stopping by and leaving a comment.

      1. Cheers Jim 🙂

It does my noggin in at times. This particular challenge especially you find yourself having to really chase it down as occasionally some don’t include a ping back in the first place, so you are constantly have to retrace all the steps, but l am think l am caught up to this one. ironically, the poem preceeding this one resurfaced not long back so l am now chasing that one around 🙂

        Thanks for understanding 🙂

      1. Yes, there is a tale attached to how the blog got its name. Like you l don’t use the word bloke that often. I was called both Guy and Bloke in one sentence a couple of years ago, and that’s how the blog got its name 🙂
