I rented the Veranda Room at the clubhouse and it will accommodate eight groups of players, so this should be a fun night for all the couples. My parents taught me to play Pinochle when I was young and I have been playing ever since. When playing in large groups, this card game is an excellent vehicle for social interaction, and it is a lot of fun. The only thing that I don’t like about Pinochle is that somehow Trump made his way into this game, as a playing card of the suit chosen to rank above the others. Once the trump card is used, there is a good chance that it can’t be used on the same person again. This is sort of like the saying fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Hopefully the Republicans who thought that this man who promised to drain the swamp, will wake up and smell the coffee and realize that he is nothing more than a liar, and beside that he is known to cheat at golf.
There will be no political talk allowed on Pinochle night, as there is way too much hatred in this country now. With all the crazy stuff going on in our country now, this might be hard for some people to resist, but no matter how much someone tries to influence your opinion, it is unlikely that anyone will change their position about anything, as emotions run too strong, the stakes are high, and opinions will always vary. If everyone had the ability to see themselves through someone else’ eyes, then maybe we could all get along with each other and the world would be a better place.
