Like A Dream Come Alive

Bee Halton at The Bee Writes Love Is In Da Blog 2019 ~ A Music Festival has buzzed us to write about A Love Song from 2009-2018.  I chose ‘Love You Like A Love Song’ by Selena Gomez & The Scene which was released as a single in 2011 off their third studio album When the Sun Goes Down.  ‘Love You Like A Love Song’ was written by the husband and wife duo of Tim James and Antonina Armato from the American record production/songwriting team known as Rock Mafia and Adam Schmalholz who is also known as “IN-Q”.  In this song Selena Gomez declares that love by way of a song is just adding to the extensive catalog of love songs that are already out in the world, but she is going for it anyway.  Selena will “keep it in re-pe-pe-peat”, because she is clearly obsessed with love, and this chorus becomes infectious enough that you won’t mind listening to this song over and over again.

Selena Gomez is an American philanthropist, actress and singer who was born in 1992 and she got her start in show business with a two-year run with the role of Gianna on the purple dinosaur kids show Barney and Friends in 2001.  After a few bit parts in movies, Gomez guest starred on the Disney Channel’s The Suite Life of Zack & Cody in 2006 and Hannah Montana.  In 2007, she was chosen to play the leading role of Alexandra Margarita Russo, better known as Alex Russo, in The Wizards of Waverly Place, a show that lasted for four seasons with 106 episodes.  The program received a great reception and was nominated for five Emmy awards, of which two of them went to Selena and this helped her to win legions of young fans.  Gomez began her musical career in 2008 when she recorded ‘Cruella de Vil’ for Disneymania 6.  She also recorded three songs for the film A Modern Cinderella 2 and one for the soundtrack of Tinker Bell.  In 2008, she signed a record contract with Hollywood Records and created a band called Selena Gomez & the Scene.

The lyrics in this song deal with a love relationship in its initial stage, relating to how people act so crazy in the beginning when they meet someone new.  Brooke Adams performed background vocals with Armato and James and Tim Pierce contributed guitars.  ‘Love You like a Love Song’ was a success in North America, peaking at number twenty-two on the Billboard Hot 100 and it got to number ten on the Canadian Hot 100.  It stands as the band’s most successful single in the United States, lasting the longest on the chart, selling more than two million copies and earning a 5X platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).  Brooke Allison Adams, better known as Brooke Allison, is a pop singer from Fort Worth, Texas, who had a minor hit in 2001 with ‘The Kiss-Off’, which reached number 28 on Billboard Magazine’s Hot Singles Sales chart.  She later worked in a girl group, The Beach Girl5, but after releasing two singles and appearing on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the group broke up.

Rock Mafia has written and produced 38 top ten singles, and have sold over 50 million records worldwide.  Tim James was a pop artist on Columbia records and he was introduced to Antonina Armato by Columbia executive Donnie Ienner who built Columbia Records into one of the most powerful and respected labels in the history of popular music.  Ienner became the Columbia Record Group Chairman in 1994, which is not bad for a man who never finished high school.  Ienner started in the mail room of Capitol Records and he was vice president and general manager of Arista Records as well as being the Chairman of the Sony Music Label Group during the early 1990s.

Tim and Antonina wrote a bunch of songs and started making records for him as an artist, and then they started having success with an artist named Hoku Ho Clements an American singer who is best known for her 2000 hit single ‘Another Dumb Blonde’ from the 2000 soundtrack and comedy film Snow Day and the song ‘Perfect Day’ from the 2001 soundtrack and comedy film Legally Blonde.  In 1988, when Antonina Armato was just 17 years, she old wrote her first multi-platinum single ‘I Still Believe’ along with Giuseppe Cantarelli, a song that was made famous when it was covered later by Mariah Carey in 1998.  That same year Barbra Streisand recorded ‘What Were We Thinking Of’, a song that she wrote with Scott Cutler.  In 1999, Tim James wrote ‘I’ll Be Your Everything’ which was used as the theme for Disney’s Inspector Gadget and was sung by the boy band YoungstownTim co-wrote this song with Haim Saban, Shuki Levy, Steve Durham, Skee-Lo and Josh Stevens.  It went gold, and became his first top 40 hit.

They started a label, Rock Mafia Records, with Paul Palmer, which is what started their whole Disney thing.  They owned the masters to this band called Hope 7, which they licensed to the first The Cheetah Girls soundtrack.  Armato and James were able to experiment with the new genre labeled “teen beat” or “tween-pop”, writing mildly punk-pop-tinged hits for and with teenybopper superstars like Aly and AJ and Miley Cyrus, not to mention an assortment of High School Musical graduates.  Rock Mafia studios features Tim Pierce on guitars, Dorian Crozier on drums, Paul Bushnell or Sean Hurley on bass. Antonina was mentored by Quincy Jones and she tracks all the vocals.

It’s been said and done
Every beautiful thought’s been already sung
And I guess right now here’s another one
So your melody will play on and on, with the best of ‘em
You are beautiful, like a dream come alive, incredible
A centerfold, a miracle, lyrical
You’ve saved my life again
And I want you to know baby

I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby
And I keep it in re-pe-pe-peat
I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby
And I keep it in re-pe-pe-peat

Constantly, boy you played through my mind like a symphony
There’s no way to describe what you do to me
You just do to me, what you do
And it feels like I’ve been rescued
I’ve been set free, I am hypnotized by your destiny
You are magical, lyrical, beautiful
You are, and I want you to know baby

I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby
And I keep it in re-pe-pe-peat
I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby
And I keep it in re-pe-pe-peat

No one compares
You stand alone, to every record I own
Music to my heart that’s what you are

I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby
And I keep it in re-pe-pe-peat
I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby
And I keep it in re-pe-pe-peat

    1. Then let no stone be left unturned and she is probably better known to your children. I am also under a rock when it comes to certain forms of music, which is why I like this Love Is In The Blog challenge, as I am expanding my boundaries with this and Selena is definitely worth a listen.
