She walked through fire, but was not burnt by it, which leaves me with three possibilities of how this occurred. The woman had this mysterious skill which allowed her to become the strange fire walker of Borneo. She started out walking barefoot over a bed of hot embers or stones and kept pushing the limits of physics, till her whole body became completely resistant to any flames. There were other fire walkers around who were able to limit the amount of time that their feet were in contact with the hot coals, staying below the threshold time where it was not long enough to induce a burn, but she was a whole level above her competition. Maybe this chick who played with fire and did not get burned was just someone who not burnt out, meaning that she was not completely exhausted due to being overworked. That brings us to my last explanation, that being about her lover is not able to light her fire, as Jim Morrison talked about in his song ‘Light My Fire’, expressing the duality of passion and destruction.
This phrase is reminiscent of the time when Moses saw a bush that was on fire, but it was not being consumed by the flames. Moses was curious, but he looked away until God told him to remove his sandals, because he was standing on holy ground. It also reminds me of what Isaiah said when he recognized that people are just human, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God.” I think that Isaiah was offering encouragement to those who were unsure of their faith and he used an analogy of someone who was trying to cross a turbulent river with swift running water and possibly some slippery rocks, to let them know that they would not be harmed as long as God was with them.
Fire is the visible effect of the process of combustion which is a special type of chemical reaction. It occurs between oxygen in the air and some sort of fuel. Fire is an actually an event, it is not a thing, it exists in a different state called plasma, that rapidly liberates heat and light producing flames when the combustion reaction, reaches the ignition point. Heating wood or other fuel releases volatile vapors that can rapidly combust with oxygen in the air, where the resulting incandescent bloom of gas further heats the fuel, releasing more vapors and perpetuating the cycle. Fire is the rapid oxidation of a material in the exothermic chemical process of combustion, releasing heat, light, and various reaction products.
There are some big fires burning now in Northern California and fire crews working through the night to try to contain the blazes. California’s wildfire season really has started earlier than usual this year and Governor Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency because the blaze has already burned a combined 85,000 acres northwest of Sacramento, destroying 22 structures and it is threatening 600 more, as these fires aren’t done yet. The two fires are probably just a taste of what’s to come, as this is shaping up to be a particularly nasty year. Trump weighed in on the tragedy with one of his most confounding tweets ever, blaming California for the blazes because they divert water to the Pacific Ocean. Apparently the firefighters are not complaining about a lack of water for battling the blazes and all the waters in the California river system eventually drain into the ocean. Forest fires are normally a natural and necessary part of the ecosystem, as even healthy forests contain dead trees and decaying plant matter, thus when a fire turns them to ashes, nutrients return to the soil instead of remaining captive in old vegetation.
