Captain Kirk was vitriolic when he saw the Romulans had crossed into the Neutral Zone, an area of space between the United Federation of Planets and the Romulan Star Empire that serves as a ‘buffer’ zone to keep the peace. There was no love lost between Kirk and the Romulans, as he viewed them as being a ragabash race that could never be trusted. On his last encounter with the Romulans, Captain Kirk of the Enterprise managed to steal one of their cloaking devices, so Starfleet could reverse engineer it and better assess its danger to the Federation. The Federation learned how to detect sensor blips associated with cloaked ships and this is how they located the Romulan vessel. These cloaking devices generate an energy screen to render their spacecraft relatively invisible to sensors. They are only able to remain hidden for about five hours due to the immense power drain, and these ships were usually prohibited from simultaneous use of other major systems such as weaponry, shields or warp drive.
Captain Kirk called out, “Yellow Alert Raise Shields.” Pandemonium broke out as the Romulan vessel uncloaked and targeted the Enterprise with its phasers. Kirk said, “Ready photon torpedoes, we will get the best of them as I am not out here just to play cat and mouse or dungeons and dragons with them. These Romulans only understand a show of force and I am going to mail it home to them. This race of bullies takes pleasure in violating every behavioral norm and societal taboo they can find and although in structure they may be as big as a moose, but they do not know how to be elegant and that is why they will lose.”
The Romulans fired their phasers first and the Enterprise countered with a photon torpedo and when the Romulans turned about for another pass they fired their Plasma Cannon. Male testosterone was high as the Enterprise fired back with their Phase Cannon and blasted the Romulan ship out of the sky. Cheers erupted on the bridge and Kirk said, “Those bad guys always want to shoot you, cloak and run away! Let’s continue our mission and go where no man has gone before. I am sort of thirsty after that battle, so I am going to the replicator to get some iced tea and I bet chocolate mousse would go good with that.”
