This is my 500th post since I started my blog back on April 23rd of this year.  500 may just be a drop in the bucket compared to some other bloggers, but as Ferris Bueller once said, “Life moves pretty fast.  If you don’t stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.”  I read that the number 500 could signify that your life is about to change and that you may soon experience different things that will affect your life in a major way, but to me it is just the number that follows 499 and precedes 501.

The US Treasury quit issuing the $500 bills, along with the $1,000, $5,000, and $10,000 notes back in 1969, because they were not being circulated enough.  The number five hundred is significant to Wall Street, as this number is included in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index.  I think that it is important to celebrate your milestones and achievements, so this is a celebration post and any cause for celebration is fun.

My first post was a poem about my dog that I wrote before I became a blogger.  I write about many different topics and I write in many of the Writing Challenges here on WordPress.  I have written 193 posts for the Daily Post.  I have written 22 posts for One Liner Wednesday and 21 posts for Stream of Consciousness Saturday.  I wrote 17 posts for Song Lyric Sunday.  I have written 35 posts for Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie and 15 of these posts have been for the Wordle Challenges.  I have written 9 posts for the Sammi Cox Author Aspiring Challenges.

I have been accused (it is all true) of writing very long posts.  I do not participate in many of the Flash Fiction contests, because I do not like restrictions on my word counts.  I write about writing, about words, about math, about science, about history, about religion, about politics, about music, about dating and about myself.  So far I have gotten 2,691 different visitors and 7,278 views on my posts and overall, I average about 30 views a day with my blog.  I have 178 followers although only a few of them will regularly comment on my posts.  I have gotten 3,953 total comments and I have 2,993 likes on my previous 499 posts.

I don’t want to come off as being ungrateful, but I would be writing even if nobody was following me or reading my posts, or liking or commenting on any of them.  It does feel good to get some likes and comments, but I am driven to write, because it gives me satisfaction.  I still have some problems with my WordPress blog, as I do not get notifications back from other blogs that I make comments on.  If I make a comment on someone’s post and they hit the like button, then I can go back there and see if they wrote anything else.  I am a bit disappointed about this flaw, but I contacted WordPress about this and nothing was done.  I guess this is a good time for me to apologize to anyone who is waiting for me to make another comment on their post.

WordPress has been a positive experience for me and I have even made some friends here.  They are actually cyber friends, as I have no intention of ever meeting any of them and for the most part, I do not know that much about them, including what their real names actually are.  So have a Merry Christmas and some happy holidays, hang up some mistletoe and pop open a bottle of champagne or celebrate whatever and I will still be here writing, because that is what I enjoy doing.

  1. Well done. Very well done, indeed. I think I’m almost at 2 years blogging, and 120 posts. It might be because I keep deleting some of the older ones – I call it housekeeping, because once I reach capacity, kaboom – pay up or …
So, wonderful words, great work and output, and I’ve used quite a lot of your words as inspiration (wait for the next book of short stories).

      1. Remember ‘When Darkness Ruled’ – that’s my inspiration for a story currently being created to go into the next anthology (thanks to a hold on the Valki story). there you are, an inspiration.

      2. Then you can tell me of my two errors (both near the end). The word destiny should be replaced with Chironex (I’m sure you would’ve figured this out).
        Have a great holiday!
