Poems are collections of words that express an idea or an emotion they often use imagery, metaphors and similes. There are so many different forms of poetry that it’s hard to keep up with everything. Poetry is a powerful language and the are many different types of poetry, are categorized by or governed by the number of lines in the poem, the number of words in the poem, the number of syllables per line, where breaks between lines occur, whether or not it rhymes and what the poem is about. Dylan Thomas once said, “Poetry is what in a poem makes you laugh, cry, prickle, be silent, makes your toenails twinkle, makes you want to do this or that or nothing, makes you know that you are alone in the unknown world, that your bliss and suffering is forever shared and forever all your own.”
Poetry incites emotion, whether that is positive or negative, it’s a dichotomy in itself. Each reader reacts differently, and one poem can have several different meanings. The Shadorma poem is composed in stanzas, that consist of one or more sestets. Rhyme and meter (unit of rhythm, pattern of the beats) are optional in the Shadorma poem. It is syllabic poem, where each line is based on a syllable count. It is composed of 6 lines and the syllables change according to this pattern 3/5/3/3/7/5.
